Stakeholder Engagement

InternetNZ had just gone through a consolidation process, bringing Internet New Zealand, the Domain Name Commission, an anchor project called the ‘Broadband Map’ and an annual event called the ‘Net Hui’ beneath a single banner. Part of our task was to augment a new narrative for the consolidated organisation, and give light and life to the new business strategy.

The internal stakeholders were all staff, and everyone was kept on the journey through a series of workshops and presentations.

I helped guide the organisation create a new brand framework, using outputs from a series of internal projects the team had run on defining the key pillars for the strategy. My job was to take they key aspects of that, bring a new ‘humanness’ to the organisation, and create a new articulation for their mission, purpose, goals, (the why). I also had to rework their values in a way that became more meaningful, relevant and actionable through the ways they worked (the how), and to get staff to see the opportunities they had, and their role in the mission.

A key output of the framework was a new brand signature that gave each entity within InternetNZ a clear voice, and their own place in the sun. I was tasked with rolling out a new visual architecture, brand signature that aligned all their initiatives and entities into a single clearly articulated voice.

A new logo was developed that became the cornerstone for everything; a literal interpretation of ‘Dot NZ’, that also worked as an arrow marking a new direction forward.

A comprehensive set of brand principles was created that helped guide high level decision making across the business, and make the brand signature and visual identity an easy to use system for the web designers that were handed the brief to create their digital presence not long afterwards.
