One man against the gods

Maui is the brainchild of aerial artist and actor/writer Tanemahuta Grey.

For several years he performed with a Spanish troupe in Europe. With all the things he accomplished, he still had a burning desire to come back to New Zealand and put together something completely indigenous that he could eventually take to Broadway or the West End.

My brief was to create and enduring brand that had all the right cultural cues, yet had the Mana and presence that it felt big enough to be World Class.

Maui was launched amongst a Wellington Festival of the Arts and rose to immediate acclaim, the show was variously described as “phenomenal”, “spectacular” and “powerful”.

Tens of thousands saw the show over two sell out seasons. The show was able to secure representation in the UK and Europe.
